i finally feel like i'm in a place to stop looking so much and start buying. furniture, that is. i have quite a talent for buying any and all unnecessary accessories that i come in contact with. what i need to be doing is saving for the wallet gaugers like rugs and furniture.

unfortunately, when i went back for some of these, they'd already been snatched up. c'est la vie.

before the holiday gets too far gone, i have to give my mr. some serious props for how adorable he was last week. a certain (joking) demanding someone declared that she wanted an ombre layer cake for valentine's day instead of flowers or any kind of gift this year (we don't generally do gifts for v-day anyway).

i think we can all agree that was a solid request, no?

much to my surprise and total delight, the man came through in spades.

he made that shiz.

that's edible gold glitter in the glaze, friends.

seriously. if you guys knew my husband, you would know that this is confirmation that he can do absolutely anything.

unfortunately for him, this means his honey-do list just got longer.

hi, friends! sorry to leave you with nothing new these last few days. i've been hard at work on some projects. G's room is finished in all of its kalamata olive splendor. it was looking a little on the cool side at first (which is weird since it's the brownest purple ever), but i think once we get more furniture, art and proper lighting in there, it will be a real stunna. she was here this weekend and seemed really excited about the new diggs! if the kid's happy, i'm happy.

this week, i'm in the middle of addressing some very cool wedding invites (white ink on metallic gunmetal gray envelopes anyone?). they're looking good so far!

i've failed to mention some guest appearances that i've made in the last few weeks, so i'm sending you off this lovely wednesday to soak them up in all of their glory.

one year old. sounds like such a long time and so short all at once. either way, it's been a pleasure. i was just saying to a friend the other day that i swing wildly between building a business plan and attempting to monetize BIA, and simply relishing in it as this place that i truly enjoy being. this place where others share the same interests and passion and excitement for design, but without the pressure of a paycheck or of even talking about anything except what we really just want to talk about. i've spent so much of my life trying to be what i think others want me to be. it's unbelievably refreshing to be exactly who i am in this space. thank you for making that so easy!

i hope that, just as it has over the last year, because it's awesome continues to evolve. whereas this past year has been very much about collecting and anticipating, i expect this year to be largely about doing. i'm excited to find out where it might go, and what wonderful opportunities and relationships might come of it. i'm enormously grateful for the opportunities and relationships it's presented thus far! i'm excited to share more of myself here in the future, whether it be my home or my work, or a number of other topics i've toyed with presenting.

powder room updates are coming, promise. turns out, it's tough to get good shots of a 1 ft x 1 ft room with no natural light. who'd have thought?

but i will say that this has inspired me to go on a painting binge. g's room is next (dark purple, remember?). and then the entryway. so let's just admire this for today, shall we?

first of all, that floor kills. KILLS. i'm also quite smitten with the nice clean ivory paint color up top. then there's the arched doorways, abundance of natural light, the fact that the hall is wide enough for a gorge antique console and dream settee (which i want in my formal right this second, please). those topiaries would look good on my front stoop (eric wants lions. who's gonna win that one?)

at this point, i'm really just focused on the paint color. i need something clean and classic.

thank you guys so much for the rug enthusiasm! it's always fun to hear your feedback. plus, it often validates my taste, and that's something almost anyone would get excited about, right? apologies for leaving you high and dry yesterday. instead of finding fab inspiration for you, i was busy finalizing paint samples to take care of a little problem that is our powder room.

so, i should start off today by saying that i have been leery of posting progress shots because i don't necessarily want pictures of my house all over the interwebs, especially when i'm not done (which, really, are we ever done?). plus, it's going to be a very slooooooow process, and that could get old. but i also know that if i'm going to do an unprecedented amount of house decorating discussion here, it would be crazy not to show you bits along the way.

so. against my initial judgement, let's talk about one of the first things i've actually committed to (yay commitment!) . . . the family room rug. exciting? maybe only to me. feel free to humor me here.

as of now, my vision for this room involves basically different everything furniture-wise (except the armoire and maaaaybe the parsons chairs) and i seriously heart the idea of grasscloth walls (leaning towards yellow hues), but a similar arrangement. i imagine an upholstered ottoman eventually, which will break up the pattern a little, but i'm otherwise really loving the visual impact of our new trellis rug!

i considered something "safer" like charcoal (which is quite lovely, if you ask me), but was compelled to go with more color. mostly because i haven't committed to a sofa and, subsequently, a sofa fabric/color. gray on gray isn't my goal for this room. although, i'm not against it in theory.

other commitments include a beautiful new upholstered bed for the master, but we are lacking appropriate bedding, so you'll have to wait to see that.

i'll elaborate on my vision for this room in an upcoming post.

today, can we please talk about how i am in loooooooove with the incredibly talented erin jang's new project, food sketches, where she'll be illustrating random food eaten over the next year? bon appetite indeed!

i think i'm more focused on G's bedroom than any other space in the house right now (this room also acts as our guest room since we're only working with one spare bed at the moment). i just want it to be even a little bit put together so she feels at home when she stays with us.

creating a room fit for a preteen that also suits guests of all ages sounds tricky. lucky for me, the kid gets into interior design . . . and has a sense of style all her own. which is pretty nails if i do say so myself. we've settled on dark purple for her walls (exact shade yet to be determined if anyone has any recs). the room gets great light, so i have no qualms about such a dominant color.

i'm fairly certain you'll be able to pick up a theme in my inspiration folder:

hmmmm . . . detect any themes? i adore the idea of a 4 poster with drapery panels, but i'm not sure we can get past the fan (and, i'm sorry, but fans are just practical in bedrooms, so it's probably staying). still thinking perhaps some drapery over a headboard, but those are tough to execute without looking cheesy, so we'll see. we'll definitely need a short desk as one of the bedside tables, a charming 3-drawer dresser with a large mirror situation, we both loooove the idea of a small chaise (in a pop color maybe??), and lots and lots of layering of pattern and texture.

so there you have it. one room planned(ish) . . . nine more to go!

i couldn't help but laugh when i spotted this old levi's ad recently. way back in 2002, this inspired one of my first design projects in college (i tried to pull up the file to share, but it's saved in such a way that it's corrupted and can't be viewed by my current version of photoshop *sigh*). it was one that i showed in my portfolio when i applied for my job with hallmark in 2005, and earned me a position in the lettering department, where i am still happily learning and designing daily.

hellooooo, 2012! hope everyone had a great time ringing in the new year! we celebrated with friends by treating ourselves to an amazing meal and then going back to the house for games and one too many glasses of bubbly. in true form, my year was off to a slow start yesterday. but it's always worth it, right? :)

i'm also coming off quite a long break from routine with a few fun bits to show off around the house. so stay tuned for a little bit of that soon.

because i don't have said photos for you today, let's just talk about wicker, shall we? my mom has always had a thing for wicker, and i'm not going to lie (sorry, mom), i'm not sure i really had an appreciation for it until more recently. but it's turning my head more and more these days. i like the texture and warmth it brings to a space. plus, it's relatively easy to come across and often inexpensive, so you don't have to fret over ruining a piece by painting it. because what's better than a piece of furniture that you can repaint over and over again? not much.

well, we're in the final stretch, folks. are you ready for christmas? seeings how i have yet to purchase my holiday stamps and get my christmas cards out (even though they've been addressed for weeks), you can tell i'm totally on point this year.

i did take some time to put together a little wish list over at savvy home with many gorgeous items that are sure to make their way under my tree . . . in my dreams. come by to see what i'm lusting over!

something else i've been lusting over in an unnaturally big way lately is fur. fur fur fur. i want it on everything, and i'm successfully finding ways to sneak it into every room of the house.

a girl's gotta have priorities, you know. nevermind that we should be saving pennies for a new fridge, furniture for G's room, a dining table, anything for the formal living room . . . nope. i just want fur.

hey, all! apologies for the silence yesterday. too much fun over the weekend + a lot to cross off my list yesterday left me a bit crunched for time. but i'm making up for it today (well, indirectly) . . . my last house guest for the amazing guester series is melissa of veranda interiors. i'm a broken record at this point, but i never miss anything melissa says. or shows. because it's always ridiculously chic. plus she legitimately knows a thing or two, and i like knowing people that are smarter than me. this is especially true when it comes to kitchens, my immediate association with melissa and her mean talent. so that's what she decided to focus on today, and i am pumped to see what advice she will bestow on this new kitchen of ours . . .

Hey everyone, my name is Melissa from Veranda Interiors, and if you don't know me one thing you need to know is I am addicted to kitchens. When Tobe asked me to participate in this series I was so excited and honored! I thought it would be perfect to do up her kitchen for her if it were my own. Now she already has a great space, but how can we update it, make it her, without breaking the bank? Well follow me for a little journey...

{1} White subway tile to replace the existing backsplash, but take it one step further by carrying it around the window above the sink, also around the the entry to the right of the fridge, from floor to ceiling, it will be nicely framed by the crown at the ceilings and the casing around the passage way.

Since there are great Absolute Black granite counter-tops already installed lets bring it together by using a black grout rather than the typical white/cream grout, make that tile POP! The images above are great examples of that.

{2} Next up is the fridge, kinda obvious in the image above. It appears to be a standard depth fridge (35" deep) which can really encroach in the the space, so I would love to see a new counter-depth (24" deep) stainless steel option replace it in the future. One of my favorite brands for a good 'bang for you buck' is Kitchen Aid, something like the Counter-Depth French Door one below would be perfect!

{3} Next up is new hardware, an easy way to update the cabinets without forking over a large chunk of cash. I would love to see a beautiful polished chrome replacement for everything. And no, it is not hard to keep clean, I went with polished chrome throughout our home and even with 2 little boys it is just as easy as a brushed finish to maintain.

So with 3 simple changes in the kitchen I know it would bring it up to date and it will reflect a style that Tobe would love. But...I can't forget about the 4th thing, the fan that is above the kitchen table in this image below.

While it may be practical lets face it, it isn't a WOW fixture, and this is something that a stylish lady like Tobe needs. Here are a few of my favorite picks for a light in this area.

So, Tobe, when can we get started?? I don't know about you guys but I am thrilled to see this talented lady put her mark on this home...it is going to be stunning! Mel xo

melissa, i am pretty obsessed with all of these calls. i've made some very similar assessments, much to the chagrin of the hubs. i am most certainly down with the subway tile (hadn't even considered dark grout, which would be both beautiful AND practical); i've already started scoping out a new fridge; the knobs aren't terrible by any means and would probably be last priority but i do believe that a little bit of glam would go a long way; and eric was not the happiest when i said that the perfectly good fan would be departing. because it's gotta. but i need a wow chandy in that dining room first!

Hello awesome crew! I'm Erika from small shop, excited to share with you some thoughts on how to construct a gallery wall. Having done a few of these, I didn't even realize I had a few unspoken rules in the back of my mind. And since Tobe is moving into a new pad with lots of empty walls, perhaps some of these tips will come in handy (although I don't think she'll need any help in that department!)....

No.1: Definitely choose your pieces from mixed media -- illustrations, paintings, photographs, abstracts, even textiles...the more varied, the more interesting!

No.2: Vary your frame sizes, styles, colors & widths to give the appearance that the pieces have been collected over time. Often you can find great off-the-shelf frames (sometimes with mattes included!) at your local art supply shop. Also mix in a pair of frames.

No.3: Mix contemporary, antique and personal pieces to create visual interest. Dust off your old sketchbook and see what little wonders you can find. Or frame a piece or two of your kids' art. Mixing in those personal touches with store-bought prints will make it that much more special to you.

No.4: Stick to a general color scheme. Since you'll be mixing media, frames, and styles of art, adhering to a basic color scheme will help make the arrangement visually cohesive.

No.5: Taper off at the edges/bulge at the center. You want to arrange your pieces so that they kind of coalesce at the middle. This will help define the area and make it feel like one entity.

So do you think you could tackle this task now? Not quite as daunting? I say as long as you fill it with things you love, it really doesn't matter how perfect or imperfect the layout is. It should just make you happy every time you look at it!

Hello fellow Awesomites, Gabrielle from Savvy Home here. I was over the moon when Tobe asked me to fill in while she's settling into her new home. Moving is always exciting, but it's also a truckload of work!

We settled into our house about a year ago with NADA. Decorating has definitely been a process. One that is still in motion! Starting with a blank canvas can be hard, so I thought I'd help Tobe by sharing a few tips and giving her some ideas for her new house.

(please excuse my poor typography skills!)

1. Find inspiration: In Tobe's case, this was easy. Her blog is filled to the brim with beautiful interiors.

2. Find the common thread in the inspiration images: there's always a few common threads between the inspiration images. Compile a list of things that appear in more than one (see left).

3. Consider space and budget. Invest in good-quality larger items like sofas. Make sure they are timeless and will last you a lifetime. Allow yourself to splurge on 1-2 items you absolutely couldn't live without. They will set the tone for your home. Accessories can often be found on a budget and can be swapped easily.

4. Here comes the fun part: sourcing materials (more casually known as shopping)! I always work from the ground up. Rugs and large furniture first, then paint or wallpaper. It's easier to match paint to a rug than the other way around. Then comes smaller accessories, lighting, art, etc.

Here's what I came up with for Tobe. The best part is that all the accessories are under $200! Art can be mixedhigh and low (from original to prints) and arranged into a gallery wall.

finally, right? today i'm super excited (and only a little bit nervous) to finally show some pics of the new house! i snapped these the day of inspections, so there's some misc equipment here and there, and i only took them to fill the gaps of what we already had from the listing photos, so it's not an extensive tour, but you can at least get a sense of what we're workin with . . .

which is open to the kitchen (where i'm standing for these shots) and on the opposite side of the entry from the family room:

the room just past it with the drapes is the formal dining, which takes you right back around to the kitchen:

and just for kicks (and because it's apparently award-winning), the master bath:

all those leaves are still there.

there you have it, party people. it is absolutely not a bit what i was expecting to buy. we'd been shopping the late 70s/early 80s fixers with a vengeance. so many that had amazing potential, but needed lots of cosmetic love. the moment i saw the listing for this beauty, i said, why not? maybe someone in this city didn't choose completely vanilla upgrades and we can have that older home with gobs of charm and a price tag we can afford? and so it was.

half of those spaces are still totally empty. there's a bit of furnishing to do. and it is not without existing cosmetic elements i'd like to change (i must note that, overall, i'm quite happy). all of which, naturally, you'll be subjected to, likely even complete with solicitations for your ever-awesome advice. i already have a million ideas swirling around in my head! it's going to be
so.
much.
fun.

today we are in for a treat. we're being whisked away by my favorite wanderlust go-to, kim of in a state of luxe. if you're the type that likes to take a few minutes for yourself in the middle of the afternoon (not guilty at all), i say you do like i do and pay her a visit. i tell you, every locale she posts is exactly where i'd like to be. she finds the most amazing spots in the world. turns out, she also has a talent for interior design as well! double whammy.

Hi! Kim here from South African interiors & wanderlust blog In a State of Luxe . I know that Tobe has had a chaotic time of late what with the move and plenty else on the go. No time screams for a holiday quite like when you're surrounded by piles of boxes that seem to never diminish no matter how much unpacking you do. So I thought that we'd take Tobe and her family on a fantasy holiday. Tropical island, clear blue waters, first class service and perfectly warm sunny days….let's go!

We know she's pretty exhausted so let's not make the journey even more tiring (see left).

It makes so much more sense to fly private, no?

Once they've settled into their over-the-water oasis and explored the island, it's time to dive straight into that deep blue sea….

…followed by a lot of lolling about both in and over the water...

There's no shortage of something refreshing to quench any thirst…

..and lunch would be a languid affair…fresh seafood, crunchy salads and a feast of flavors

For a change in routine, the occasional day out on the island's private boat would be fun

And as the sun sets and the moon rises there'd be plenty of time to reflect on another day in paradise

So by the day it's time to hop onto the seaplane back to the mainland to catch her private flight home,

she'll be on top of the world…

Tobe, I hope at least this imaginary escape has allowed you to transport yourself momentarily into another world...just enough to give you that burst of energy you need to finish the unpacking and start on the fun stuff...the interiors. Good luck and we can't wait to see the results!

today's house guest is - you guessed it - another fave. i'd been reading nichole's blog for some time and then imagine my delight when, just a few months ago, she announced a move back to kansas city! unfortunately, we haven't had a chance to connect yet, but i've loved following her progress as she decorates her gorgeous new abode, and am in high hopes that we can make that coffee date happen very soon!

true to form, today's guest is another daily visit for me. jenny from my favorite and my best not only has absolutely impeccable taste, but she's equally hilarious to boot. i haven't missed a post since the fateful day i discovered her blog. if you've been there, you know why.

turns out, jenny also gets to brag about being the talented creator of my housewarming gift to myself (c'mon. that's allowed, right?). she's recently started selling paintings, one of which i am thrilled to have snagged. when jenny asked what room i wanted her to do a moodboard for, i knew immediately that she would own my new formal living room. and she wasn't allowed to leave out my new painting . . . happily, she also (instinctively) payed tribute to my new purple infatuation.

Hi everyone! Victoria from vmac+cheese here, happy to be filling in for Tobe while she attends to all things new-house related. I know Tobe has been looking for a house for quite some time, and I am so thrilled that she's finally found a place to call her own! I can hardly wait to see the transformation over the next few months.

One tradition I can always get behind is the housewarming gifts. And let me be clear -- I mean gifts given to you by friends, or gifts you get for yourself! After all, moving is an excellent excuse to pick up a few fun new home accessories, am I right? Those extra touches are what make a house a home!

Today, I wanted to share a couple ideas for things that would make great housewarming gifts. When I moved to my apartment a few years ago, I wanted to find a way to "remember" some of the previous places I'd lived. That's when I saw an image of framed vintage flashcards on Pinterest, and it gave me the idea to frame flashcards featuring my previous street addresses and meaningful dates in my life.

This would be a pretty simple DIY gift to give to someone, and would have a lot of meaning! Or, it'd be an excellent project to attempt on your own -- once you're settled in, of course.

you're going to have to excuse the interior-heavy posts for the next few weeks. i'm a bit obsessed, as you can imagine. the loft is slimming down and the boxes are piling up around here. it's bittersweet now that it's all real. i've wanted it so badly for the last few months, and now i'm starting to see what i'll be losing when we make this move (albeit gaining a great deal, too!).

anyhoo . . . i've been stealing away moments to peek through some of my old shelter mags as i pack them up. i'm one of those that tabs my pages when i come across something yummy. are you? it's enlightening to see how my taste has evolved in the last year or so. i have some beautiful spaces marked in the november 2010 elle decor, no doubt. but one that i didn't mark a year ago that i've now reveled in thoroughly is the upstate new york collaboration of architect gil schafer and (longtime fave of mine) miles redd. please observe:

as i dream about decorating the new house, i can't help but fall hard for these perfectly imperfect art walls from the gorgeous manhattan home of kate and andy spade. naturally, the home is charming in entirety and warrants a look-see. no question. it's just these walls . . . they're everything a stylish yet at ease home should be, and they have me thinking about all of the bare walls i'll be dressing in the coming months with bright eyes and eager anticipation.

i'm not sure what's gotten into me lately, but new hues are broadening my appeal. as a wildcat, there's no denying that i bleed purple. however, it's never been a top pick when it comes to my home until very recently. and there's really not a specific shade that i'm sticking to, either. i'm loving everything from lavenders to plums to the bluish variety.

My whole life I have compared myself to others. Wanting what others had. I wanted their longer legs, thicker hair, not gapped teeth, and skinnier body. Basically whatever I could come up with. It wasn’t till I was older that I embraced the things about me that made me different from everyone else. I own the characteristics of my family and now I am pretty proud of what I got. apologies for being MIA yesterday . . . operation salsa sweatshop is in full effect at our house. poor eric has been suckered into helping me can nearly 100 jars of salsa for a craft fair this weekend. gotta test the sellability of this deliciousness before we attempt to pitch it to local grocers (which we'll hopefully be doing next year). mostly because, you know, i need one more thing to do.

you are correct. they're all super moody with black, naturals (to include animal prints, natural fabrics, wood, grassiness, etc) and metallics of the shiny and matte variety. basically, i'm obsessed lately. i want all things that fall into these categories.

not long ago, i discovered a very awesome project of one of my talented colleagues. josh started word ink back in 2009, but has recently reinstated the venture . . . which is exciting for us because it's one that we all get to take part in!

this is how it works: josh relates word ink to a word processing plant for which you provide the fuel.

once you start following the project on twitter (@26symbols), you submit a word of choice (keep it clean, people).

as time allows, josh will letter your word and tweet you a link back to the blog!

because word ink is all about celebrating lettering and words, he prefers not to do names, but your words can be legit, made up or blended, as you'll see in some of his previous pieces. styling is based on interpretation, so it might be illustrative, calligraphic, casual, etc.

The I Am Project :: I Am So Much More

When I look back at myself in my middle-school days, I cringe to think how I obsessed over what I looked like. Looking through an old diary reminds me of how huge my insecurities loomed over me; how I felt I could gain control over them by looking perfect.

A boy in my class told his friend, who told a friend, who told me (you know how middle school works) that he liked me (liked me liked me? yes, liked me liked me) because I was creative. This did not compute with my understanding of how the world worked, and I balked at his interest.

I didn’t want to be liked for being creative. I wanted to be liked for being beautiful.

Like, super-beautiful.

I wanted to be compared to everyone else and not be found different, but to be found better. I had seen that the best-loved girls around me were not wanted for aspects of their character. They were wanted because they had perfect skin, full bras, long legs. To me, happiness was any kind of validation that I could compete in that arena. To appease the deep hunger inside me, I donned my waterbra, straightened my hair for two hours a day, and threw my name in the ring.

I wish now that I could go back and withdraw from the race. To pile up the hours in front of the mirror with the straightener, the money spent on tanning and stupid trends, the thoughts I wasted on myself, and redirect all that energy into something noble.

Brennan Manning wrote, “Would that I had served my God the way I have watched my waistline!”

The sayings stenciled out on the neon posterboards at school were true: I am so much more than my face, my body, my clothes.

Beauty shines out of my heart, through my humor, through the way I treat people.

My grown-up self knows this. But that middle-school girl and her insecurities are still alive inside me, and I rather often need to put my arm around her, shake her to attention, and remind her:

happy monday! hope you had a stellar weekend. we spent some time celebrating five years together and an early birthday evening with a little staycation at local urban b&b, the southmoreland inn on the country club plaza.

that's our room above. each one is named and decorated for a notable kansas citian, many of whom shaped the city's development in major ways. during turndown service, they actually flipped a book open to our room's figure of inspiration (william rockhill nelson), and i couldn't help but keep searching the book to discover the stories!

today is pretty great, isn't it? i don't think i've mentioned this, but november is one of my favorite months. for one, i celebrate my birthday at this time every year (next monday to be exact. my fashion pinterest board has a great gift selection if you're interested), football season is in full swing (did anyone catch that monday night chiefs/chargers game? heya!), my fall wardrobe gets to come out (turtlenecks and boots? yes, please), and comfort foods are completely acceptable (pretty sure our cafeteria served thanksgiving dinner for lunch yesterday and i obliged).

adding to the excitement this year, eric and i are celebrating 5 years together on this very day. we call it our non-date anniversary because at the end of an amazing night, he suggested that we invite a couple of our mutual guy friends next time. what the?!?! i'd been under the impression that we were doing just fine on our own (dinner and a few games of pool. i've been known to hold my own, and i needed to be sure he could handle it). the next time he called me (three weeks later), he admitted that he was a little freaked out by how strongly he felt that night.

no surprise there, right? :)

alsoooooooooooooo . . . i am probably jinxing us right now, but i can't bear to hold it in. today is also very special because we are having our possible new home inspected!!!!!!! yes yes yes, we have finally struck a deal (third time's a charm) and are on our way to having a real grown-up home by the end of this month!!! those of you that have struggled with the home buying process know exactly how it feels to finally find one that you adore and to have the deal actually go through. absolutely euphoric. christmas comes twice this year.

don't even think about it. i'm drinking all of those.

more or less 200 houses later, i think we can agree that i earned them.

or, if you want those, i'll just go with one of these. that should be sufficient.

The I Am Project :: Everybody Likes You

happy monday, party people! hope you all had fabulous weekends. did you have exciting halloween plans? mine didn't include any halloween action, but it was pretty non-stop. i hope to be recapping several aspects of it this week. for now, yes, i am's are back! apologies for the gap. i feel like this week merits a bit of an explanation about the statement (which we actually intend to start doing more often).

it is safe to say that i have spent the majority of my life a stage 5 people pleaser. true with friendships, elders (of course), colleagues, and men i've been involved with. so much so that, in many instances, i've compromised my own wishes and opinions in order to remain as likeable as possible. it's taken years and years to overcome this deep desire to be liked. i wish i knew exactly where it came from. is that a trait you're born with or is it learned? at this point in my life - while i will always remain respectful, open-minded and professional - i'm constantly reminding myself that it's okay to take responsibility for what i need and what i want from my relationships. it's incredibly freeing to stand in your own convictions. i worry less about others' perceptions of me and more about living the way i want, knowing full and well that what i do and say will probably turn some people off. while it has never and probably will never be my intention to offend others, i'm more comfortable knowing that if it happens, it's a matter of clashing perspectives or personalities more so than something being wrong with who i am or what i want.

now i could do several posts on past relationships with men (errrr...boys, rather) as it relates to this topic, but we'll save that for another time. for now, i'll just say that it's okay to expect that you're never going to please everyone. so i say focus on the one that matters most. (that's you, btdubs.)

now, i obviously don't mean for this to be taken literally. if you're a generally likeable person, more power to you! just don't be willing to compromise yourself too much for others' sake.
